06 Aug QuadJobs is Taking The Gig Economy Back To Its College Roots
Looking back, college was the multi-tasking testing ground for my entrepreneurial life. Besides going to school full-time and rocking it out, I also worked three jobs at any one time. I did work-study in between classes, worked at a retail store and also as a waitress at a private Soho House-esque club. In my free time, I would pick up spare work from the school’s Quickie Job Board, which was essentially a listing of one-off jobs from residents in the area. Everything from weekend painting jobs, to moving, to babysitting gigs was listed there. If something fit my availability and skillset, I’d grab the listing index card off the board and call the job poster to claim the gig. Yup, this was during the age of paper and phone calls and it worked to helped hundreds of local students make a little extra cash during the school year.

QuadJobs founders Andra Newman, Bridie Loverro & Betsy O’Reilly
Under that same premise, the founders of the new online short-term job board – Quadjobs – is aiming to help thousands of students. Launched in October 2014, the platform provides students access to flexible, short-term jobs, such as babysitting, temping, dog-walking, errand running, party staff, and furniture moving. They even offer longer-term positions.
Currently available in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York
City, Westchester County, Columbus OH, and Chicago, the platform is free for students with a .edu email address. The subscription fee for employers is $8.95 per month, but their first month is free.
The service is growing rapidly, says Betsy O’Reilly, one of QuadJobs three founders and may be soon connecting students to local gigs nationwide. With the cost average of private college rising to $31,000 per year; any service that helps students offset the balance is welcomed.
Oh and O’Reilly has a tip for students looking to use QuadJobs: “Always do your best, because even small jobs offer the chance to make connections and build your reputation.” That is sound advice for any professional.
