Simple Ways to Reduce Your Stress & Finally Relax

work stressEvery working professional encounters stress at some point. Think about all the responsibilities you have on your plate: spouses, kids, deadlines, friends, community. Add the additional challenges of launching or running your own business and you’re probably at your wits end by 5pm.  In fact, according to recent studies by the American Psychological Association, close to 22 percent of Americans have reported experiencing extreme or overly excessive amount of stress over the past couple of years. This is a scary number, and given the way the “always on” world is evolving, it can only get worse if you don’t take steps to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

The feeling of stress or “being stressed out” can do a lot more to your body than just make you feel anxious. In fact, studies have shown that constant stress can actually lead to various chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, bodily infections, and severe mental depression. Stress can also lead to weight gain, stroke and reproductive dysfunction. These are serious health issues and for these very reasons you must find ways to reduce your stress as much as possible.

It may be hard to limit the stress factors in your office, but here are some easy ways to manage and reduce stress while you are within the sanctity of your home.

relax bathTake a nice, warm bath. Any person that has taken a bath knows that a warm bath can instantly take away stress from your body. A warm bath will relax the vessels inside your body, meaning that tension will physically released as soon as you step a foot in the water. Sitting in the tub also takes pressure off your feet and back and the privacy allows you to rest in a silent harmony. If you have taken a relaxing bath before, you know how good that feeling is.

 

Get a hug! A lot of people underestimate the physical and psychological power of a simple hug. A hug is an instant human connection that can essentially decrease a person’s stress as soon as their bodies touch. Hugging can serve as a way of releasing tension, it can be used as a way to give and receive love, and ultimately, it can be a way to feel a sense of comfort that a person may not have been able to feel any other way. Human touch can go a long way to relieving stress.

Drink some water. When your body gets stressed, it often gets dehydrated. By drinking water, you are soothing your body and assisting your body in handling all the different reactions that we experience while our body is in stress mode.

Breathe deeply. Breathing deeply is another way that a person can instantly relieve stress. Take a couple minutes and just take long, deep breaths, and this will not only reset many of your brain patterns, but it will also increase your heart rate coherence and lower your blood pressure.

There are many more ways to decrease your stress, but these four tips are a great way to start! Follow these and you will be well on your way to lowering your stress levels and increasing your health.
