11 Oct Samsung Ends Production of Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone
Talk about embarrassing. Samsung has decided to kill production of the Galaxy Note 7 after failing to fix a problem that was causing the smartphone to catch fire. The South Korean company had already recalled 2.5 million Note 7’s after the phone went on sale in August and customers reported the device bursting into flames randomly.
Of course, the internet was having some social media fun with the news following the announcement.

Abandoning the flagship device may be a huge financial hit for the company, but Samsung’s options may have been limited after a replacement phone caught fire on a passenger jet. Samsung has advised customers to power down all Galaxy Note 7’s immediately and return them to their place of purchase for another phone or refund. Unlike the company’s first recall on September 15, this recall is global – meaning Samsung will have many more than the 2.5 million Note 7’s to process.
It remains to be seen if the disaster that is the Note 7 will dissuade customers from purchasing other Samsung phones and products. As of Monday, shares for the company stock was down 8% in Seoul.
During the first recall, Samsung reported that 60% of customers had exchanged their phones, meaning that 40% of you out there like to literally play with fire.
