27 Jan Good Business: Amplify 4 Good is Helping Companies Hack Community Problems
The best business leaders know success can’t be solely measured by the number of zeros on a balance statement at the end of the month. In 2014, entrepreneur Joey Womack launched a socially conscious organization with this in mind. Co-founder of Amplify 4 Good an educational startup, Joey (he prefers people to use his first name) develops hacking events to help social impact organizations and underserved communities globally.
Traditionally, hacking has been used by the tech industry to create a new product or improve an existing one quickly. Essentially, hacking involves bringing together a group of people of various skillsets to solve the problem. Joey and his team apply that same concept to help organizations identify and provide solutions for real-world problems impacting their consumers and communities.
Since its inception, Amplify 4 Good has held innovation labs for “Good” or hackathons for 51 organizations including CARE USA, Google, the United Negro College Fund, Be The Match, Black Enterprise, CocaCola Scholars Foundation, and General Assembly. Together the solutions provided through the collaborations have the potential to positively impact more than 400 million people.

I caught up Joey recently to find out more about his organization and his mission of helping organizations have a deeper impact on the communities their serve.
What inspired you to start your Amplify 4 Good?
It was calling. One I’ve felt since my early years. I’d spend a lot of time thinking about how many talented people in world are working to help people, but making little impact relative to our potential. So my goal was to create a system that made the community improvement “ecosystem” more efficient. It was a huge undertaking.

So, how do exactly do you help people?

Do you think you are changing the world?
