Survive A Breakup The Shabby Apple Way: Build A Successful Business

A breakup may represent the end of a relationship, but for Shabby Apple founder Athelia Woolley LeSueu it was the start of a booming fashion business. After her boyfriend split with her because she dressed too conservatively, LeSueu set out to design a fashion line that was cute and “allowed women to feel confident no matter their size.”  The result is Shabby Apple, an eight year old clothing and accessories line that is chic, classy and comfortable.

A Girl In A Dress caught up with LeSueu at her recent Spring Preview and asked her about her keys to success. The thoroughly modern entrepreneur and mom had these amazing tips to share on following your passion and running your business:

So, where does the inspiration for your business come from?

I used to feel a little subconscious in dresses because they were either too short or too sleeveless. I felt like there needed be dresses that were cute, but actually covered enough. So, (I decided) to start a company and design dresses that way. All our dresses have sleeves and go to the knee, so women who want to dress in a cute can do so and feel confident.

Figure out how to work on the edges. I work during nap times because (my children) don’t need me during nap times. I work at night because they don’t need me at night. I make sure that when I can, I really focus on my kids and when I’m there I’m really present with them, so they know I love them. 15 years from now I don’t want to regret not spending time with them. Put your children first and then figure out times when you can work it out.

What has been the best advice you’ve received in regards to running your business and growing your business?

Failure is okay and little failures are okay. And that is the really helpful for me because sometimes I try to do something and it doesn’t work out. And, its okay. Those little failures are okay and that was really, really helpful for me to know.

This is absolutely great advice every entrepreneur can use to move their business forward. Check out some of Shabby Apple’s cutest pieces. Prices range from $27 – $205 and are perfect for fashion forward business builders.
