While traveling abroad Martice Sutton found herself being culturally misunderstood. Sutton realized that those abroad didn’t have a strong positive picture of African American women. To combat this, she founded the Girls Going Global summer travel program with the goal of exposing African American girls to the cultures of the world. Sutton believes that it is not only important for those in the world to be exposed to more African American girls but also for those African American girls to see more of the world.

Sarah Gross was walking her rescued pit bull, Mocha, when her thoughts turned to dogs that weren’t as fortunate as her own. Gross wanted to do something to help more animals find their own forever homes. She chose to do so by combining two of her greatest loves: animals and chocolate. She launched Rescue Chocolate, an online chocolate store in 2009 and donates the proceeds to animal rescue groups. Through her passions, she has created, “the sweetest way to save a life.”

When Ami Duong studied abroad in Bangkok, she was mesmerized by the beautiful textiles she encountered in Thailand and neighboring countries. When Duong learned that the female artisans were struggling to make a living, she was determined to help. Today, she runs Oimei, a company dedicated to ensuring those same artisans earn a fair wage and connect with new markets around the globe. “Oi Mei” means “love beauty,” in Chinese and those words reflect the type of inspirational organization Duong has created for those she serves.
