05 Sep Bad Day? Three Things You Can Be Grateful For
On a terrible day, when nothing went right and you feel like a failure, there is peace in remembering that it’s just one sad day in an otherwise beautiful life. When you forget what to be grateful for, here are just three of the infinite reasons to give thanks:
The Sun’s Rise and Set
The best part of a wretchedly unhappy day is that it is only 24 hours long. Every day ends with a brilliant sunset, and each morning you get to start over again. The new day comes with a colorful sunrise that holds warmth and invigorating light. There’s nothing like lifting your face to the sky and smiling into the sunlight to bring happiness when you’re feeling down. Be grateful that this star happens to be close enough to the Earth to sustain life.
Your Favorite Music
Listen to a favorite song and imagine playing it on an instrument, even if you aren’t musically inclined. Appreciate the singer’s voice and follow the tempo. Imagine the lyrics written as a poem. How is it that these sounds, which are just waves traveling through the air, can produce such strong emotions? Give thanks that you have access to your favorite music at any time and any place, just by pushing a button.
Family
Who is it that you can count on for help? That’s your family, whether it’s your best friend or spouse, your children or parents. Take a moment to think about these people, and if you are very lucky, you can take a moment to look at their beautiful faces and marvel at the love that you share. Even if they are far away, be thankful for the best people in your life.
We all have our off days. When that happens, it’s important to slow down and reflect on all of the small and ordinary parts of life that are actually remarkable. There are so many parts of life that we take for granted, and there are people who would give anything to have just a fraction of our everyday life. There’s no need to feel guilty, just feel grateful.
What simple things in life make you feel the most grateful?
