Self Improvement: Why Meditation Is Important

We all live very busy and hectic lives. In a world that is full of Starbucks coffee runs, takingthe kids to baseball practice, watching movies late at night, it can be very easy to lose touch with our soul and the natural rhythms of our bodies. In our world today, there are so many different things that are fighting for our attention, which is why it is difficult for many people to take the time to meditate at some point during the day. But what most people do not realize is that meditation can help you stay in touch with your body and your emotions, something that can help you get through your day a lot easier.

So, why should any person just sit still for a long period of time and “just breathe”?  Mainly because we are often spend our day doing quite the opposite of just breathing. We dedicate so much time running around with work and taking care of the family, that most of the time we’re on the run and out of breath. Believe it or not, but for some people, the “just sit and breathe” method of relaxation can be just as invigorating and inspiring as riding the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

 

So when you think of meditation, what do you usually think of? Do you think of burning incense and monks chanting something inspirational in a language that you have never heard of? That may be the case for some, but meditation can be a lot more than that. Did you know that walking each morning at 7am can technically be considered a method of meditation? Did you know that while you are sitting at a bus stop

waiting for the bus to come and just watching the people as they walk by the sidewalk is a way of meditation? Or how about going for a jog along the beach while the sound of the water crashing on to land entertains your ear? Or if you like playing basketball and you just go your favorite court and just practice shooting your free throws … all of these things and more are considered ways of meditation. This is because all of these things can bring you to a very important state of mindfulness. Meditation is just a simple way of saying that you are “taking it all in”. You are able to take everything in without anybody judging you, without feeling any sort of stress, and without feeling any sort of pressure. Meditation is when you take the time to appreciate every single moment for what it is, no matter if it is good or bad. You see, when we limit our beliefs, we hold ourselves back from our real potential. Meditation will allow for you to really learn about who you are, resulting in a better overall understanding of life.

So take the time and meditate today. It does not have to be anything spectacular or over the top, just do whatever you feel keeps you feeling relaxed.
