Fear Not: Help is Good

Fear Not: Help is Good

There are many reasons to ask for help at work, one of the most important is to maintain your ability to perform.  If the best way for you to excel is with some assistance, use these tips from the UK’s Guardian to succeed at every task and meet every deadline.

  • Don’t wait until it’s too late.  Evaluate the situation often and get support when you still have plenty of time and resources to achieve your goal.
  • Solve the problem yourself first.  Determine the best way to finish the job and exactly how you could use the talents of another person.  Present your solution and make a specific request, so that asking for help becomes a proactive move to address the issue.
  • Be strong.  Asking for help shows that you care about the company enough to maximize your performance.  When you avoid procrastination and take full responsibility, you are making the work your priority. The boss will appreciate that  the work gets done; they don’t want you to work until you’re burned out and unable to contribute.
  • Crumbling under the weight of your workload is not an option.  Asking for help is dignified and professionally responsible.

When do you ask for help at work? Do you think asking for help makes you weak or strong?
